FamilyCare Disability Support Services offer a range of recreational respite programs to carers of children and young people with a disability.
These programs offer a range of volunteering opportunities for people interested in assisting young people with disabilities. Volunteers can be people from all walks of life, young (over 15 years), older, couples or singles, students, working or non-working people.
Volunteers are trained in all aspects of their role and can volunteer as little or as often as they like. This program is also open to schools that have groups of, or individual students wishing to volunteer as part of a curriculum topic or an educational training course. Workplaces or Service Clubs are also welcome to register and be trained as part of this program.
Volunteering is a fantastic way to contribute to your local communitys well-being and develop meaningful relationships with young people who have a disability and their families. Its also a great way to gain extraordinary life experiences, whilst having fun and meeting like-minded people.
IntoRec is a recreation program that offers out of school hours and weekend activities to young people with a disability or chronic illness. Activities offered are the Afternoon Recreation and School Holiday Program for school aged children, and the Young Adult Social Group for people aged 18 to 25 years.
Disability Support Services are always looking for volunteers to support the young people to participate in these activities.
The Host Program matches a child or young person with a disability with a qualified volunteer host or host family that can offer care in their own home to the person with a disability. Hosting is flexible and can be anything from a few hours, a full day or a weekend once a month. Hosts can be of any age over 18, married or single, with or without children.
Host volunteers undertake extensive training, and are fully supported in the hosting role.
