Parent often need a break from the demands of caring for a child with a disability: and children also need new experiences within the community.
FamilyCare provides support and respite to families of children and young people with a range of disabilities. The Host program matches a child or young person with a disability with a qualified volunteer host or host family that can offer care in their own home to the person with a disability. Hosting is flexible and can be anything from a few hours, a full day or a weekend once a month. Hosts can be of any age over 18, married or single, with or without children.
The host goes through a process of induction and training before being matched. The hosting is flexible and can take place over a weekend, during school holidays or during the week as long as it is a regular period of respite and done in agreement with both the host and the client’s family. Hosts are required to agree to a commitment period of at least 1 year minimum.
