Refugee Minor Program


The Refugee Minor Program aims to assist 'unaccompanied' young people and children, up to the age of 18 years, with their settlement and establishment into life in their new community through a casework-based approach. FamilyCare offer this service on a case contracted basis from the Department of Human Services - Rural Refugee Minor Program.

The Refugee Minor Program provides the provision of direct services to clients to assist them, (and their relatives or carers), to develop key settlement competencies whilst also establishing and maintaining partnerships with other key agencies in the community.

Clients can be given assistance on many issues ranging from:

  • Accommodation support;
  • Financial support;
  • Physical and emotional health needs;
  • Cultural and religious continuity;
  • Education issues;
  • Provision of support (re Refugee Application Process);
  • Social and recreational needs;
  • Developing or maintaining client/family connectednes
